From Broadway to Def Jam: Jai’Len Josey Drops Debut Album ‘Serial Romantic’

JAI'LEN JOSEY

Singer-songwriter, musician, and Broadway star Jai’Len Josey has officially stepped into a new chapter with the release of her debut album Serial Romantic. The project, released via Def Jam Recordings, marks a defining moment for the Atlanta-born artist, showcasing not only her evolution as a performer but also the depth of her storytelling.

Executive produced by five-time GRAMMY Award-winner Tricky Stewart, Serial Romantic arrives with an impressive creative lineup. Contributions from acclaimed collaborators like The-Dream, Leon Thomas, Theron Thomas, and Ben Parris help shape a rich and dynamic soundscape.

Josey blends R&B, soul, and cinematic pop, with subtle flashes of Detroit ghettotech woven throughout. The result is a genre-fluid experience that feels both polished and emotionally raw, anchored by her unmistakable tone and style.

At its core, Serial Romantic is a deeply personal exploration of love and resilience. “Serial Romantic is about choosing to love again, despite repeated heartbreak, because loving is in our nature,” Josey shared. “The inspiration was all the experiences, failed relationships, and tests that ultimately led me back to myself. Every lesson, every heartbreak, it all pointed me inward.”

Before her rise in music, Josey first honed her craft on Broadway, starring as Pearl in The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage!. That foundation in live performance continues to inform her artistry today, bringing a theatrical emotionality to her recordings.

She has steadily built her catalog over the years, refining her voice across projects like her 2020 Illustrations EP and 2023’s SOUTHERN DELICACY EP. With Serial Romantic, Josey not only expands on that groundwork but confidently carves her path in contemporary music; unapologetically vulnerable, sonically adventurous, and rooted in self-discovery.
