Viola Davis received her Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star today, Davis has worked extremely hard and her hard work is paying off in recognition, a strong black woman playing strong characters, Davis is solidifying her place in history.
“That wasn’t part of the dream,” Davis says, chuckling. “I feel like this is the best vision board coming to fruition.”
Davis has a great variety of work, and has shown her talents to everything from the stage, to television, to the big screen. One of her biggest inspirations. Ms. Cicely Tyson, has a personal connection with Davis, on and off-screen. Tyson was an integral piece to Davis’ childhood vision board when she set out to become an actor at 6 or 7 years old after seeing “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.” “She looked like me,” Davis reminisces. “Her looking like me made me believe I could do it, but what she did for me was something way beyond entertainment value — it was of transformative value. I felt like if I did that, I could make a life and it could be a beautiful life.”
Davis also talked about her career and her recent movie “Fences” with Denzel Washington. To top it off, she received the award by none other than Meryl Streep. This is a great recognition along with Davis’ Emmy Award because it shows how good her work is, and that black women are paving a way in the industry and opening doors.
“Viola is one of the actresses who always mesmerize fans with her talent,” Ana Martinez, Vice President of media relations for the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a recent press release. “She is amazing and we are thrilled that she will grace our world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
