Lee Daniels is riding high off of the success of “Empire,” so he created another show, “Star.” “Star” focusing on an up and coming girl group, two members, being sisters, grew up in and out of foster care, and one sister was sexual assaulted for years. The sisters team up with another girl and drive to Atlanta to start their music career and start a new life.
Daniels talked to Ebony.com about his show, stating “I really want to explore race in a way that we haven’t seen it before on a network series.” The main character, STAR, a white girl (Jude Demorest), grew up and lived a life that is seen played out in many movies about black people and black families.
Star is also a white woman who is singing R&B with and written by a black girl on the show and uses black vernacular (in reference to Daniels statement). So I guess having white people be ” a part of our culture” is one way for them to feel good about themselves.
Her mom shared the same singing aspirations as her, but ended up doing getting involved in the wrong side of the industry with the wrong people. Having Queen Latifah and Lenny Kravitz to the cast are great additions.
You can watch the trailer below, Star airs Wednesday Nights on Fox at 9 pm.
