After years of working hard, releasing music and multiple mixtapes, Tory Lanez has delivered is debut album “I Told You.” After listening to his entire album full, with no skips; “I Told You” is definitely the summer album that will show Lanez really will be a great contender in this music industry.
The “Say It” singer/rapper has been releasing music for a few years, but gained a lot of notoriety with his song “Say It,” which spun off multiple remixes. The Toronto native has continued to shine with his take on Toronto R&B fused with Hip-Hop, and some Reggae. He has made headlines recently dropping his “Controlla” remix, and his “beef” with other Toronto artist Drake.
Lanez ability and style of music shines in this project, and when listening; tell his life story. The album contains 14 songs, and in between every song is a sketch. “I narrate the whole album, says Lanez on “I Told You.”” “It’s a real cinematic experience.”The first sketch, Lanez introduces himself. It goes into his first song “I Told You/Another One,” describing his life at 16. “Steady contemplating where the fuck I’m about to live/Momma died same year, my sister had a kid/It was either feed the fam or get killed,” Lanez even talks about his his then girlfriend and him dealt going through multiple abortions together.
This album definitely showcases Lanez, his talent, growth, and where he can go in this industry. He also samples style and music from past songs in the industry. “I Told You” is definitely worth the listen. Lanez is playing no games with this album, and to top it off, he has the I Told You tour, with the first date being the “Made In America” concert with Rihanna.
