TJ Jackson is embarking on his solo career. After dropping “Insomnia” and “I Don’t Deserve This,” this year, Jackson is ready to do things his way.

While at the Urban One Honors red carpet, we got the chance to speak with Jackson on his music, and family. Coming from an immensely talented family, this is not his first time in the spotlight. Jackson was in the group 3T with his brothers early in his career (Jackson is Tito’s youngest son). The group even had Michael Jackson featured on their song “Why.” Jackson is now venturing into his solo career, and is happy doing it.

“It’s a long time in the making for me,” he stated. “I’ve been doing music since I can remember, pretty much with my brothers, 3T. But it was important for me to do my own thing. I had a lot of my own ideas I wanted to get out, and that’s what I’m doing right now.

Jackson also spoke on any pressure to uphold the Jackson name. “When I was younger, I felt no pressure,” Jackson stated. “I don’t know if that was ignorance, or being naive as a youngster, but I feel a bit more pressure now. I understand and realize how important my family has been to music, and our people. So, I want to make sure I represent not only my family, but our people the right way. And that’s what I plan to do.“
