Sold Out: Nas to Perform Illmatic with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Historic One-Night Event

Hip-hop meets high art this July as rap icon Nas takes the stage with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for a one-night-only performance that promises to shake the pillars of the classical world. On July 23 at Baltimore’s Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, the legendary emcee will perform his debut album, Illmatic, this time, backed by the full force of a world-class orchestra.

Illmatic, arguably one of the most influential hip-hop albums of all time, being reimagined through strings, brass, and timpani, creating a crossover moment with a genre-blurring euphoric evening.

Released in 1994 with the success of tracks like “N.Y. State of Mind”, “Memory Lane” and “The World Is Yours,” Nas not only showcased poetic prowess but also painted vivid portraits across generations. Now, 30 years later, that same body of work gets elevated to a new artistic height, thanks to the vision of Nas and the orchestral talents of the BSO.

“It is an honor to bring this iconic album to life in a new way and shine a spotlight on our musicians’ incredible range and talent,” said Mark Hanson, President and CEO of the BSO.

Nas’s collaboration with the BSO is more than a performance—it’s a reflection of how hip-hop continues to evolve, break boundaries, and earn its rightful place in prestigious cultural institutions. The Queensbridge poet, who’s racked up 16 GRAMMY® nominations and a win for Best Rap Album in 2020 (King’s Disease), shows no signs of slowing down.

Tickets for this historic performance are officially sold out, a testament to both Nas’s enduring impact and the excitement surrounding this groundbreaking collaboration. Whether you’re a hip-hop head, a classical music fan, or someone who simply respects greatness, this is a performance to be remembered.
