Thursday night, July 11, R. Kelly was arrested in Chicago on federal sex crime charges by Homeland Security Investigations agents in Chicago, and NYPD Public Safety Task Force.
According to CNN, Kelly has multiple charges against him. From sex trafficking in New York, to “attempting to influence a case in Atlanta.” NBC New York reports that Kelly got arrested while walking his dog around 7pm.
CNN also reports that a five-count indictment against Kelly will be unsealed later today, July 12, in the Eastern District of New York. However, that’s just in New York. While in Chicago, his 13-count indictment includes child pornography and obstruction of justice, according to a statement to the Associated Press from Joseph Fitzpatrick, assistant US attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.
These arrests and charges can be traced back throughout Kelly’s past, but the Surviving R. Kelly docu-series helped bring the issues back to life. When it comes to his Chicago charges, Kelly was charged with 11 counts of sexual assault, on top of his other charges on May 30th, 2019.
