Lil Nas X Earns Second Billboard No. 1 with ‘MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)’

Despite constant criticism from his single and actions supporting it, Lil Nas X has earned his second Billboard Hot 100 single with “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name.” Released a little over a week ago, it becomes Lil Nas X’s first single to debut at no. 1.

Montero is X’s born-given name, and he previously released a letter to his younger self, adding why the single is important to him.

He tried to promote the single with a “satan shoe,” which had Nike file a lawsuit. He was a trending topic with churches and politicians, and he and his director got called out for sharing too many similarities with FKA Twigs’ “Cellophane” video. All of these things kept him at the top of people’s minds since its initial release, no doubt adding to its popularity on TikTok.
