J. Cole’s first single of 2019 caught a lot of attention with its lyrics, which helped shoot it in the top 5 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. His first top 5 song of his career.
Cole’s “Middle Child” is currently the number 4 song in the Hot 100 chart, its second week on the chart, jumper from its previous position at number 26. This makes “Middle Child” his highest charting single to date. The song beat out Cole’s last highest charting sing, “ATM,” which highest chart was the number 6 position.
Throughout the song, Cole’s lyrics addressed a lot of his thoughts, and a few lines, many thought were to be aimed at Kanye West.
Just put the Rollie right back on my wrist/ This watch came from Drizzy, he gave me a gift/ Back when the rap game was prayin’ I’d diss/ They act like two legends cannot coexist/ But I’d never beef with a nigga for nothin’/ If I smoke a rapper, it’s gon’ be legit/ It won’t be for clout, it won’t be for fame/ It won’t be ’cause my shit ain’t sellin’ the same/ It won’t be to sell you my latest lil’ sneakers/ It won’t be ’cause some nigga slid in my lane
