After 10, 11 hours of deliberation following a multiple-week trial, former officer Derek Chauvin has been found guilty of all charges in the murder of George Floyd. Floyd was killed last May when Chauvin placed his knee on Floyd’s neck for 9 1/2 minutes.
The jury in question was comprised of six white people and six Black/multiracial people. The charges Chauvin has been charged with are second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. While the trial of Chauvin was taking place, another Black man, 20-year-old Duante Wright was killed by police not far from where the trial was taking place.
Following the verdict being read, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz plans to deliver a public statement to the state of Minnesota, and those around the nation watching.
