Annual American Black Film Festival Unveils Powerful 2024 Film Lineup

The 28th annual American Black Film Festival has announced a diverse lineup of narrative and documentary features for 2024, spotlighting emerging BIPOC creatives telling captivating stories across genres.

ABFF will occur in Miami Beach from June 12-16, followed by an online segment between June 17-24 on ABFF PLAY.

Winners will be announced during the “Best of ABFF Awards” hosted by three-time Emmy award nominee Dondré Whitfield on June 15.

The 2024 lineup encompasses filmmakers from the USA, Nigeria, France and Canada, with narrative features spanning action, thriller, romance, biography, drama, comedy and coming-of-age tales exploring themes as mental health, trafficking, homelessness, gang violence, gentrification and LGBTQ+ advocacy.

Narrative highlights include “Albany Road” directed by Christine Swanson and starring Renée Elise Goldsberry; “The Lost Holliday” with Jussie Smollett and Vivica A. Fox; “The Waterboyz” featuring Alani “La La” Anthony and Quavo; and “Black Heat” led by Jason Mitchell, written and directed by Wes Miller, co-starring Tabitha “Dreamdoll” Robinson and NLE Choppa.

Documentary highlights include “King of Kings: Chasing Edward Jones” directed by European filmmaker Harriet Marin Jones, produced by the renowned Quincy Jones & Debbie Allen; “Luther: Never Too Much” directed by Dawn Porter, produced by Jamie Foxx; sports profile documentary “Train: The Dick “Night Train” Lane Story” directed by Eric “Ptah” Herbert.

NARRATIVE FEATURES (U.S. & International)
A competitive section for U.S. and international feature-length films directed by and/or both written and produced by persons of African descent. Films in this category are eligible to be nominated to compete for the following Jury Awards – Best Actor (presented by Ally Financial, $2500 cash prize), Best Director (presented by Cadillac, $5000 cash prize), and Best Narrative Feature (presented by Walmart, $2500 cash prize).
