After Promising To Pay Off Morehouse’s 2019 Class Student Loans, Robert F. Smith Announces New Paid Internship Program For Minorities

If the name Robert F. Smith sounds familiar, then it’s probably because you know about his promise to pay off the Morehouse 2019 graduating class’ student debt. Now, Smith is doing another great thing for students of color.

Smith created intern X, a sector of his Fund II Foundation which is set to help “rising sophomores with at least a 2.8 GPA from ethnically underrepresented groups” land an eight-week summer internship. The internships will focus on “STEM-related positions in all sectors; so far, financial, marketing, software, not-for-profits, real estate are the sectors signed up.”

Smith’s promise of paying off the debt has been estimated to be worth up to $40 million, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “This is my class, 2019,” Smith said. “And my family is making a grant to eliminate their student loans.”
