In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Wendy Williams gave her full truth. From her views on being black, why she chooses certain subjects to talk about on her show, and criticism from the black community.
A lot of criticism has been given towards Williams on her treatment of black celebrities, especially women. Now Williams, a self proclaimed straight shooter ultimately denies these claims, stating that “I hate dumb women. And that goes for whatever color you are.”
Williams continues to say, “people love to throw stones at me, and I get it. It’s fun to make fun of me, because I put myself out there. I’m a large personality and I got the funny bone; I voice my opinion and then people get upset. But you tune in and watch every day, thank you!”
Williams also denies the skin bleaching and nose job rumors. “I am black all day, honey pie. I am black and very proud. I’m not going to do the no-makeup natural hair, whatever, beans, greens, lettuce, tomato, eh. But I’ve got more black in my pinky than most of the gangsters behind their keyboards. You come out of your house and you do a talk show, let me see how far you get with your attitude… I don’t like when my own people say that I don’t want to be one of my own people. Like, really? Last time I checked, I didn’t marry a white man. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, though.”
Williams, whose career in broadcasting has spanned more than 30 years, has not done anything different that what she’s been doing. The transition from radio to television seemed to be an easy shift for Williams, even though she has to be a little more censored. The Wendy Williams Show is going into its 10th season come September, and Williams is currently on a 10 city tour promoting the show.
However you may feel about Williams, her tv show is supposed to run until 2020, she recently launched the BeHere Campaign for drug addiction, and her only son has just left off for college. Her work is paying off.
