On The Record is the latest from HBO Max. It is centered around sexual assault, and rape allegations about Russell Simmons by Drew Dixon. Dixon is one of the first vocal accusers about Simmons, and grappled hard with the decision to speak out.
Dixon first shared her story to The New York Times, stating that Simmons would allegedly expose himself to her, constantly harassed her, and eventually raped her. Dixon spiraled into depression. Dixon was a hard worker in the industry, and after the rape happened, she quit working with Def Jam.
“I didn’t tell that many people about what happened with Russell,” said Dixon in the trailer. “He just grabbed me. He just grabbed me. And I’m saying no,” she recounts. “I was reduced to nothing in that moment, nothing about anything that makes me who I am mattered.”
You didn’t get a lot of sympathy for that,” one women stated in the trailer. “That was considered the price of admission.” Simmons denies all rape and sexual assault allegations.
“What I will not accept is responsibility for what I have not done,” stated Simmons in The New York Times. “I have conducted my life with a message of peace and love. Although I have been candid about how I have lived in books and interviews detailing my flaws, I will relentlessly fight against any untruthful character assassination that paints me as a man of violence.”
