Tracy Chapman Is Reportedly Suing Nicki Minaj Over Song Clearance

It looks like Nicki Minaj may have to say “Sorry” to Legendary artist Tracy Chapman for sampling her song without permission.

According to TMZ, Chapman has filed a lawsuit against Minaj. Chapman is reportedly suing for damages over “Sorry,” an “unreleased” Minaj song that features Nas. “Sorry” incorporates Chapman’s 1988 song “Baby Can I Hold You.” Chapman claims “Sorry” “compromises half of the lyrics and vocal melody” of her original and is reportedly seeking an order “prohibiting Nicki and her team from releasing the song again.” Chapman has denied all request in regards to Minaj using her song.

Minaj has previously went to social media to let fans know of the clearance issue with at the time, an unknown song. Saying it was holding up her “Queen” album. In a since deleted tweet, Minaj wrote that a song on her Queen album (which we now know was “Sorry” with Nas),  features one of “the greatest rappers of all time” but that she had “no clue it sampled the legend #TracyChapman.”

On August 11, Funkmaster Flex premiered “Sorry,” which has since been removed on all platforms. If you search for it on youtube, all audio has been stripped from any audio/visual components.
