Author Kevin Powell is releasing his 14th book, When We Free The World. As Minneapolis, Minnesota receives the nation’s wrath for being the location of the latest, heinous police killing of an innocent Black man, George Floyd, acclaimed writer and activist. Powell exposes the scarring racism he experienced in Minneapolis in 2018.
Powell’s new book is a collection of essays, plus one poem about the present and future of America. It explores racism, sexism, the pandemic, protests, this era of Trump and more, through the lens of Powell’s deeply personal trials of the past couple of years.
In the essay “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free,” Powell presents a stunning and brutally honest survey of America, yesterday and today, and what he hopes for its future through the window of his own very painful personal trials—as #MeToo, Black Lives Matter, mass shootings, immigration, a global pandemic, and Donald Trump rotate in the background.
Today, Wed., July 29, 7 p.m. EDT, Powell and Tim Wise will host a Zoom townhall about America. Hosted by The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, it will serve as the official launch party to celebrate “When We Free The World“ (available exclusively on Apple Books as an eBook).
