The Legendary Cicely Tyson Has Passed Away at 96

Award-winning actress Cicely Tyson has reportedly passed away at age 96 according to her manager Larry Thompson.

The legendary actress gained an Oscar nomination for her role as the sharecropper’s wife in “Sounder,” and a Tony Award in 2013 at 88-years-old. Tyson received an honorary Oscar in 2019, making her the first Black actress to receive the award.

“With heavy heart, the family of Miss Cicely Tyson announces her peaceful transition this afternoon. At this time, please allow the family their privacy,” reads a statement issued through Thompson.
