During a recent conversation with BBC Radio 1Xtra, fast-rising R&B star Sza said that when she met the legendary emcee and music mogul, he mirrored the insecurities she sings about on her debut album, “Ctrl.”

“JAY-Z was the first person to tell me that he thought I was a fluke, to my face,” the 26-year-old shares during the radio interview. “I laughed and I said, so do I.”

“He was just like, ‘You’re really good, you’re pretty good,’ and I was like ‘Thanks,’” SZA elaborates. “He said, ‘I thought you were a fluke’ and I was like, ‘me too’”

Sza goes on to explain her inner thoughts and feelings.

“I’ve never had this much attention before, I’ve never had this much expectation on me before I’ve never had this much pressure before and to go from someone who never left the house and kinda only did what she wanted to do with who she wanted to do it with all the time, this is like, painful,” she said.

Back in Oct. 2016, SZA posted on Twitter in a now-deleted tweet, “I actually quit. @iamstillpunch can release my album if he ever feels like it. Y’all be blessed.”

Clearly she didn’t quit, after the. Success of her debut album, “CTRL,” Sza has been on a musical high. And with the Grammy nominations coming up; time will tell if “CTRL” gets a Grammy nomination, or two.
