Perrin Johnson

Perrin Johnson

Perrin Johnson is a celebrity stylist, and up and coming fashion designer. I found Johnson on twitter, and was impressed but what he has coming up with what he has done so far, especially with this one set I loved at first sight. Johnson has worked with artists like Zendaya & JoJo & more, and is currently working on his own line.

Tell me about yourself?

My name is Perrin Johnson, I’m a wardrobe stylist and I do contributing styling for HypeFresh magazine. Born in Virginia, I scored an internship with a man named Paul Wharton who is a lifestyle coach and was casted in “The Real Housewives of D.C” I worked for him for about a year in a half while in High school, then after my internship I ended up working for a few PR company’s and designers out of New York and then slowly started to build a styling wardrobe and contacts and eventually started landing my own gigs, for the likes of Sorella Boutique, Zendaya x Revolt TV, Dawn Richards, Lil Debbie, and as of now JoJo and song writer (Rihanna’s BBHMM) Bibi Bourelly who is like a dream client come true in addition to working as a contributing stylist for HypeFresh magazine.

What made you get into fashion/designing? As well as creating your own line?

Fashion really just came as a natural interest, I was super young buying fashion magazines & doing research for a lot of my younger years, trying to figure out where my place was and what I was good at. Designing was my 1st interest, but styling came easier & as I progressed I stopped perusing having my own brand to style full time. But as of now I’ve joined the HypeFresh magazine team and putting out a summer 15 capsule collection that’ll run for about 2 months and then a fall/winter collection. It’s great I love everything I’m putting in this collection, plus I’m doing men’s wear something I’ve never done before. It’s staple pieces that can be worn year round but with a twist.

What kind of things do you design/create? Where do you get your inspiration from?

I do a lot of dresses and matching sets, I love jersey so that’s something we’ll be doing a lot of. My buying process for the store is pretty simple because I have a great eye for detail, I look up to girls like Rihanna and Kylie, as well as Heather Sanders, the owner of Sorella Boutique. I was able to work with her and her team on some amazing projects. I also love street style, being in New York really makes you see a whole side of fashion I never knew existed.

Tell me about hype fresh magazine and your collection with them:

The HypeFresh collection originally stated out as a under 10 piece collection, but now has turned into about 45 pieces. It’s every day items, event pieces, statement items it’s everything I would want in my wardrobe If I was a female. The team at HF really believed in me and gave me the chance I’ve been waiting for. I want to provide for the everyday man and women who’s a go getter, hard working human who deserves to look great at an amazing price point.

How is it styling celebrities? What has been your favorite look you’ve styled? How did that opportunity come about?

My work for Zendaya on her Revolt TV appearance was my Fav, I had shown her stylist a bunch of options and what she wore was the winning piece, as well my work for Livid magazine we used dresses from Pavon NYC they were super colorful! Styling was something I had to get on my own, I had to build a portfolio and relationships to succeed, I attend fashion week every year which is great for networking, I met my idol Alejandra H. Who styles for Iggy Azlaea & other artist, that was epic/life changing.

What would you tell people that want to get into the fashion industry?

Stay focused. It’s a job that entitles a lot of devotion and consistency. Study the trends and read magazines as much as possible, start a blog, do as much research and practice as you can. If it’s not for you, maybe try something else but don’t give up stay on whatever you put on your plate. Attend local events, style your friends for practice, build a following on social media all comes in handy at the end.

What is something that you would want people to know about you?

I would want the world to know I’m trying to do as much as I can to give back, this year I’m doing give aways from my collection as we’ll donating clothes to local HS that teach fashion marketing, I want to help females in the work force look amazing as we’ll men, this is just the start of a lot of work coming up. A lot of stylist don’t always have the time to help others or give advice I want to break that mold.
