Before Maroon 5 was officially announced as the Super Bowl halftime act in November, a petition had circled for the group to decline. Now, that same petition has grown and changed their mission.

After it was announced that Big Boi and Travis Scott signed on to be co-performers, the petition and its 85,000 plus supporters want the artists to take a knee.

“I have nothing against the band, this isn’t about them and they just got caught in the crossfire,” Vic Oyedeji, founder of Unstrippedvoice and the petition’s creator told Billboard of Maroon 5.

“I’m saying the only way for them to preserve their reputation is to take a knee during their set to show the hundreds of millions of people watching their solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and the players who are protesting police brutality.” 

None of the artists have addressed the controversy surrounding the announcement.
