Spencer said that the James “had to intervene” during negotiations over the pay she would receive for her work on “Madam C.J. Walker.” Also adding that “we need all our male counterparts to be in the fight with us,” according to IndieWire.

“I think my goal is to make sure that all women of color get equal pay, and all women get equal pay,” Spencer said. “The only way to do it is to have these conversations, to talk numbers with your co-stars.”

Spencer previously spoke on how former co-star Jessica Chastain helped her gain equal pay for her role in Woman Walks Ahead.

The limited series will be 8 episodes long, focusing on MadamCJ Walker, the first black  woman millionaire who made her empire off of hair products and hair care. The series will be based off the book “On Her Own Ground,” by A’Lelia Bundles.
