To help continue on with his legacy, BET is planning to honor Nipsey Hussle with the Humanitarian Award at the BET Awards this year. DJ Khaled, YG, John Legend and Mustard will honor Hussle with a musical tribute during the award show.
Hussle’s life was cut short on March 31st, 2019, by a Crenshaw local Eric Holder. Holder plead not guilty, although there is evidence and witnesses, however, he was indicted and headed to trial.
“As a prolific artist and leader, Nipsey Hussle was zealous about driving change for the betterment of his community, empowering and employing those in need and being an influential and highly respected leader,” said BET’s Executive Vice-President, Head of Programming, Connie Orlando. “His passing was a tremendous loss to the entertainment industry and to the culture. We will continue to remember his advocacy and be inspired by the groundwork he set forth and his dire commitment to social change.”
“We are forever grateful, humbled and honored to have experienced his presence,” Orlando continued. “And we are invested in doing our part to ensure that the marathon will indeed continue,” she continues. “It is an immense honor for us to recognize him with this year’s Humanitarian Award.”
The 2019 BET AWARDS will air s at 8 pm ET across seven Viacom networks in the U.S. including BET, BET HER, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Classic, VH1, and Logo.
