#NewMusic: Rihanna Releases ‘Lift Me Up’ For ‘Black Panther’ Sequel, First Solo-Led Single in 6 Years

The wait is over!

Rihanna’s voice will be a part of the Marvel Universe as the entertainer’s latest single, “Lift Me Up,” will appear on the soundtrack to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. “Lift Me Up” was written by Rihanna, Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems, Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson, and director Ryan Coogler.

“Lift Me Up” is the first new Rihanna-led song since the release of her ANTI album.

According to a press release, the artists wrote the single “as a tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman.”

“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life,” reads a statement from Tems to Variety. “I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

Boseman, the former Black Panther in the first film, died in 2020 at the age of 43 after a battle with colon cancer.

The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack will get released on Nov. 4, while on Nov. 11, Ludwig Göransson’s original score for the film will be issued by Hollywood Records.
