As a journalist and on-air personality on The Breakfast Club, Loren LoRosa brought her signature energy to the ESSENCE Festival of Culture, where she opened up about navigating the balance between being a journalist and recognizing herself as talent.
During an interview with InquisitiveCarter.com, LoRosa admitted that finding that balance has been an ongoing journey.
“I think I’ve gotten better at it,” she said. “Honestly, I think the first step was even stepping into like, girl, you are talent, and the battle of that like, no, you are talent and it’s OK. And you can be talent.”
LoRosa said she has always wanted her work to be viewed as just that, work. However, as she continues to grow in her career, she is also learning to enjoy the journey.
“I just always want the conversation with me and everything that I’m doing to be about, she was at work. Like, homegirl be at work,” LoRosa said.
While she remains focused on the grind, LoRosa acknowledged that she hopes to eventually look back and appreciate the work she has done.
“Right now, I’m in the midst of it,” she said. “So that battle has kind of been a little bit crazy for me because there’s so many levels and tiers to understanding that conversation from internally.”
As for her time at the festival, LoRosa said she was looking forward to doing something simple: enjoying herself.
“If I wasn’t here, I’d be at home,” she said, noting that her family was celebrating the Fourth of July. “So because I can’t be home, my family, after I’m finished work, this is my family.”
