Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake, and Alex Lacamoire will be honored this year by Berlee College of Music, receiving Honorary Degrees.
According to the school, Elliott and peers are being recognized for their “achievements and influences in music, and for their enduring global impact.” The five time Grammy award winning rapper is finally receiving her flowers across multiple platforms.
Some past recipients include Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones ‘51, B.B. King, Smokey Robinson, Annie Lennox, George Clinton, Rita Moreno, Lionel Richie, Julio Iglesias, Mavis Staples, Esperanza Spalding, and more.
Elliott will be the first female rapper to receive this honor from the school, and in June, will be the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
The press release states that students will pay tribute to the honorees by performing music from their careers. The commencement ceremony will take place on May 11, but will not be open to the public.
