Missy Elliott is an icon and pioneer in the rap game, and this queen has set another record for the Hip-Hop culture.
Elliott is the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of fame, and the third rapper. Followed by Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri. While we know Elliott is a dope rapper, she has penned great hits for Jazmine Sullivan, Fantasia, Aaliyah, Tweet, Ciara and more.
Missy took to Twitter to celebrate the news. “I want to CONGRATULATE all the AMAZING songwriters who have been inducted into the 2019 “Song Writers Hall of Fame. Also those who were nominated because their body of work is AMAZING. I AM SO HUMBLY GRATEFUL to now be inducted also I love you all.”
Along with Elliott, Dallas Austin, Tom T. Hall, John Prine, Jack Tempchin & Yusuf / Cat Stevens will also be inducted. The 2019 class of songwriters will officially be inducted on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Songwriters are eligible for induction after writing hit songs for at least 20 years.
