Mary J Blige is an icon the music industry, and this upcoming Lifetime Achievement Award comes at no surprise to people who appreciate real music, real talent, and real love.
According to Billboard, the 2019 BET Awards will grace Blige with its lifetime achievement award. Her career expands over decades, and after her debut single “Real Love” was released in 1992, Blige’s star just began to soar higher and higher.
In 2017, Blige received the Icon Award from Billboard, and released her latest album, Strength of a Woman. Blige’s music career includes nine Grammys, 4 American Music Awards, 4 ASCAP awards, 5 BET awards, eight multi-platinum albums, and more. Along with the music career, Blige has garnered two Golden Globe nominations, and one SAG nod, while also being nominated in the 2018 Oscars twice (for best supporting actress, and the best song categories), making history.
Blige will join past BET lifetime achievement honorees such as Diana Ross, Anita Baker, James Brown, Earth, Wind, & Fire, New Edition, Charlie Wilson, Prince, Whitney Houston, and more.
Along with the award, the BET Awards will be hosted by Regina Hall, and include performances by Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Migos, H.E.R., Lil Nas X with Billy Ray Cyrus, Lizzo, and more. The BET Awards will take place June 23rd, and 8pm ET.
