Lil Jon Has Opened A 3-Unit Block Primary School in Ghana

Both MyJoyOnline.com and GhanaWeb report Lil Jon’s efforts to help improve education in Ghana.  Jon wants to help “the creation of conducive atmosphere for children at the kindergarten and basic level in the African educational system.”

The project was 80 percent funded by Lil Jon through the Pencils of Promise (P.o.P), an NGO, and 20 percent by the community. “PoP is guided by our revolutionary “for-purpose” approach. Blending the head of a for-profit business with the heart of a humanitarian nonprofit, we rigorously measure the return on investment of every donor dollar we spend. Joy and passion are great, but results are what we’re all about.”

“This is the first Project we’ve done together of this kind,” said Jon. “And it is amazing to see the community come out to support and the appreciation they are showing for us building the school and I just feel like I’m lost for words of how amazing it feels to give the community something like this school.”

Jon went on to explain why early childhood development is important for him.

“Kindergarten kids at their age they keep up so much stuff so if you can provide appropriate environment for education it can make learning very easy for them and I’m glad I can help facilitate that for these kids looking at where they came from, open basically sheds outside, you can imagine the heat and the obstruction and now they have a well building if it rains.”

Lil Jon commissioned the classroom block with his wife, Nicole Smith and son Nathan in honour of his late mother, Carrie M Smith.
