In late October of last year, Gates was sentenced to 180 days in jail for battery after kicking a woman while performing at a show at Rumors Nightclub in Lakeland, Fla. He was supposed to be released today actually, but due to a new development he’ll be in jail longer.
Gates kicked the woman after she repeatedly continued to grab at the rapper, grabbing his legs and trying to pull him off stage or towards her. The charges stem from a 2015 Florida concert, when Gates was filmed kicking a female audience member in the chest. Gates argued he was defending himself under the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law, as the women, Miranda Dixon, attempted to pull him off stage by repeatedly pulling on his shorts.
While authorities were processing Gates’ release today, they discovered an outstanding felony weapons warrant in the State of Illinois. According to XXL.com, the Polk County Central Booking where Gates is being held at says he has a warrant for a felony weapons charge in Illinois. He is set to be extradited to Cook County, where the weapons charge stems from.
Apparently, Gates has a rap sheet in Illinois that includes “several gun charges from 2013 in Illinois, including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.” No word yet on whether these are the same charges now keeping him from being released.
