John Singleton, 51, Has Passed Away According To Family Statement

Unfortunately, after suffering a major stroke, famed director/film-maker John Singleton has passed away at the age of 51.

Singleton was nominated for an Oscar for his directing in his debut film Boyz N the Hood, and directed many great movies such as Baby Boy, Poetic Justice, Four Brothers, and many more. Singleton made history becoming the first Black person, and youngest person ever to become nominated for Best Director.

Singleton reportedly checked himself in a hospital following a flight from Costa Rica where he was experiencing leg troubles. That check in turned into a two-week stint, where he reportedly slipped into a comma.Singleton’s publicist released a statement regarding his passing on behalf of his family.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today,” the statement read according to the Associated Press. “This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.”

Many friends, co-workers, fans, and more have expressed their love for the famed director, and friend.
