On Monday, September 19th, 2016, Mark Burton – the estranged husband of Jim Carrey’s late girlfriend Cathriona White – filed a wrongful death suit against Carrey, claiming he was responsible for White’s fatal overdose last year. On September 2015, Cathriona White, was found dead in her home in Los Angeles.

Carrey and White dated on and off since 2012, and split a week before her death. Burton and White however, were married in 2012. According to family sources, Burton and White were not even communicating at the time of her death.Claiming they were surprised by the lawsuit, and it just adds on to the pain. During the time of her funeral last year, it was believed White committed suicide, but according to the lawsuit by Burton; he claims Carrey gave white illegal drugs. The lawsuit claims “Carrey illegally obtained “highly addictive” drugs under the bogus name Arthur King. After obtaining the prescription drugs, Carrey gave them to White, which played a role in her death, the lawsuit claimed.”

The lawsuit also states the Los Angeles County Coroner ruled White died due to a lethal overdose of prescription drugs including Ambien, propranolol, and a “massive dose” of Percocet. The coroner found that the pills came from a bottle not prescribed to white, but the Arthur King name that Burton claims is the name Carrey gave to get the alleged drugs. Burton states Carrey acted with “reckless disregard of causing serious harm and injury” to White.

“Ms. White was ill-equipped to ingest and manage highly [addictive] prescription drugs outside the care of a licensed physician,” as stated in the lawsuit.
