Jill Scott to Star as Mahalia Jackson in Biopic, Queen Latifah & Jamie Foxx are Executive Producers

Mahalia Jackson is a staple in music, and a Gospel icon. Now, her story is coming to the big screen. According to Deadline, Jill Scott will star in Mahalia! with Queen Latifah and Jamie Foxx as executive producers.

Jill Scott shared the news on Instagram, stating how excited she is for the film, and that it’s tremendous that Latifah and Foxx believe in her talent. . “Mahalia Jackson was powerful for more than her spiritual voice; THAT Queen Mother was determined. Every story about Mahalia Jackson is worth the watch. I feel stupendously honored.

“This is such an incredibly important story to tell and we’re thrilled to work with Jamie on the project,” stated Latifah. “Shakim and I are also looking forward to reteaming with our Clark Sisters producing partner, Holly Carter, to share Mahalia’s inspiring journey to becoming the Queen of Gospel music.”
