It’s official, Jessie T. Usher will play the “Son of Shaft” in an upcoming sequel to “Shaft” the movie, which was released in 2000, and based off of the 1970’s series.
Usher announced the news on his Instagram with the following post, “Can you see the resemblance?! lol #SonOfShaft #NewLineCinema kicking off this fall !! Thanking God for another HUGE blessing ????”
Tim Story will be the director, and Samuel L. Jackson is negotiating a deal to return to reprise the role he played in the John Singleton-directed reboot of the Gordon Parks-directed 1971 action classic.
In the forthcoming film, Usher is set to be a cyber expert who teams up with his estranged father in an attempt to try to solve a case.Kenya Barris will be the writer for the film.
“Son of Shaft” is scheduled to begin production this fall.
