The Hollywood Foreign Press Association made the announcement Thursday.

Carmichael is best known for The Carmichael Show and his HBO comedy specials. His most recent one earned him an Emmy in 2022.

“We’re so excited to have Jerrod Carmichael host the historic 80th Golden Globe Awards,” HFPA President Helen Hoehne said in a statement. “His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live. Jerrod is the kind of talent this show calls for to kick off the awards season.”

The 2022 Golden Globes ceremony was private and not aired after The Los Angeles Times filed a report and found no Black members in the HFPA.

The HFPA vowed to make a “transformational change” following the report.

The Golden Globes nominations will be announced by the father-daughter duo George Lopez and Mayan Lopez on Dec. 12.

The 80th annual Golden Globes will take place on Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC, and be streamed live on Peacock.
