Janelle Monae Is Set To Join Leslie Mann & Steve Carell In Upcoming Robert Zemeckis Film

The Grammy nominated recording artist will star alongside Steve Carrell and Leslie Mann in an upcoming film by Robert Zemeckis, the director behind the
“Back to the Future “film series, and “Forrest Gump.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the untitled as-of-yet film is based off of the 2010 documentary, “Marwencol,” centered around a New York man who copes with a violent assault by building a miniature WWII-era village in his backyard. Zemeckis co-wrote the screenplay with Caroline Thompson.

“The director will produce via his Uni-based ImageMovers, along with Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey, as well as Cherylanne Martin. Malmberg and Jeckie Levine will exec produce. Maradith Frenkel and Yellin will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.”

The film marks Monae’s return to the big screen after an impressive debut run in the films “Moonlight” and “Hidden Figures.”
