Halle Bailey is Set to Play Ariel in Upcoming Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’

After dropping the video for “Who Knew” earlier, Halle Bailey from Chloe x Halle has even more to be excited about. She will now be starring as Ariel in the upcoming live action version of The Little Mermaid.

We stan a Black mermaid queen y’all! The news was just released today, and according to Variety, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina will be among the actors set to bring the movie alive again. Social media has been buzzing with reports and rumors with the live action version for awhile since the concept was first released.

Although names like Lindsay Lohan, Zendaya, and more were heard when it come to Ariel, director Rob Marshall (and insiders) “say Bailey has been a clear front runner from the beginning.” Now, if you know the music, and acting from Chloe x Halle, then you know that Ariel isn’t far off for Bailey. Given her singing voice, and speaking voice.

In a statement received from Variety, Marshall stated that “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

Bailey reacted to the news on Twitter with the caption “dreams come true,” with a picture of a Black mermaid.
