Awhile ago, legendary artist Gladys Knight spoke on who she would want to play her in a biopic, and it looks like she may get her wish with icon in her own right, Kelly Rowland.
It was announced that Rowland will play Ms. Knight in BET’s “American Soul” series, a ’70s period drama about the rise of legendary show “Soul Train,” centered around creator Don Cornelius. Rowland has had previous acting experience in film and television such as “The Seat Filler,” “Freddy Vs. Jason,” “Empire,” and more.
TVLine.com is reporting that Rowland will cover Knight’s “Midnight Train to Georgia.” Knight was on of the first performers Cornrlius got to perform on Soul Train, which in turn, helped push the success of the long running show from the very beginning.
The announced cast so far includes Sinqua Walls, who will play Don Cornelius, Kelly Price, Jason Dirden, Christopher Jefferson, Katlyn Nichol, Iantha Richardson, and Jelani Winston. the series is set to premiere in 2019.
