From Reality TV to Real Life: Candiace Dillard Bassett on Motherhood, Career Moves, and the Future #EssenceFest

Candiace Dillard Bassett rose to fame on The Real Housewives of Potomac, which became a stepping stone to expand her career aspirations. The singer, actress, businesswoman, reality TV star and scholar is now on a different life journey, motherhood.

In April of this year, Candiace Dillard Bassett announced her pregnancy with her husband, Chris Bassett. The couple’s pregnancy journey was documented on RHOP, showcasing the discussion of in vitro fertilization.

The couple shared with Entertainment Tonight that the baby is from one of the embryos they froze two years ago.

Regarding her motherhood journey, Candiace shared that while the baby hasn’t arrived yet, she already feels like a mother.

“I talk to my baby, I read to the baby, I’m always thinking about everything that I do,” Candiace said. “What I eat, what I say, where I go, and how it’s affecting me, them in utero. So, it’s been an amazing journey. Feeling them kick is unreal and it’s been great. I’ve been really enjoying it, which is shocking ’cause I thought I was gonna hate it.”

While fans witnessed Candiace and Chris’ pregnancy journey for years on RHOP, in March, Candiace announced that she would not return to the show for its upcoming season.

Candiace made her mark on the show and has already been missed by the fans in the Bravo world. When asked about the fame and notoriety, she said it’s “still very humbling.”

“It’s still very surreal,” Candaice said “I came into this space of becoming a public figure with a lot of goals in mind. I’m really proud that I’ve been able to accomplish so much with music, acting, correspondent work, hosting and expanding my businesses. So, the bonus is all the love that you get from your village, from your fans. It’s been great. It’s been wonderful.”

Although she may have temporarily closed one door, there are many still open.

“We are getting ready to start Hush Season 3 on ‘All Black,'” Candiace shared. “I’m really excited about the new storylines for my character, Syleena, and the whole Hush crew. I’m really excited about that. The baby is kind of slowing me down a little bit, but top of the year, I have some really exciting stage work and film work that I’m excited to talk about.”
