From Homelessness to NFL Greatness: ‘The Quincy Avery Effect’ to Premiere on Hulu

Andscape, the Black content studio from Disney & ESPN, will premiere “The Quincy Avery Effect,” a documentary that tells the powerful true story of Quincy Avery’s rise from homelessness to becoming one of the NFL’s top quarterback coaches.

The documentary, which reflects a powerful story of faith and resilience, is directed by Bryant Robinson and executive produced by Jason Reid, Quincy Avery, and Z Oluwabankole Levine.

Once without a home for over 1,000 nights, he went on to train elite NFL talent like Jalen Hurts, CJ Stroud, Justin Fields, and Jordan Love—mentoring a new generation of Black quarterbacks and helping redefine their role in a historically exclusive position.

The film closely examines the emergence of Black quarterbacks, highlighting how they’ve overcome long-standing racial and cultural barriers that restricted their opportunities.

“Through Quincy’s mentorship, we see the challenges, sacrifices, and belief required to reach the highest level, as seen in the remarkable journey of Jalen Hurts, once written off by sports critics, to his 2025 Super Bowl victory,” Robinson said.

Through raw and emotional interviews, the athletes openly share how Avery’s belief in them laid the foundation for their self-confidence and success, while also shedding light on their personal struggles and the broader political challenges they faced.

“Watching this documentary, you’ll see the real power of belief—not just in football, but in life. I’m proud of the work we’ve done together, but it’s the athletes themselves who’ve shown the world what’s possible when you have someone who sees your potential,” Avery said. “It’s been a journey of resilience, faith, and unlocking greatness, and I’m humbled to be part of their stories.”

More than a documentary about football, THE QUINCY AVERY EFFECT is an intimate portrait of transformation, celebrating mentorship and the human spirit, showing the profound impact one person can have simply by believing in another.

The documentary offers a timely reminder that success often begins with someone who sees your greatness before the world does.

“Through this documentary, Andscape reaffirms its dedication to amplifying diverse voices and experiences, particularly within the realms of sports and culture,” Jason Aidoo, Vice President and Head of Andscape, said. “Mr. Avery has not only shaped an incredible lineup of sports icons, but his approach also exemplifies the perseverance that we believe will deeply resonate with Hulu viewers.”

The documentary will premiere on Hulu April 23.
