#EssenceFest: Skye Isaac Talks ‘LATENCY’ EP, Working with Michael Bolton, Kelly Rowland and Eclectic Music Inspirations

From “Chasing Destiny” on BET to working with artists like Solange, Michael Bolton, Kelly Rowland, Raye and more, to releasing her recent EP, “LATENCY,” Skye Isaac is an artist to watch on a trajectory to a flourishing career.

During the 30th anniversary of Essence Festival, Isaac and I discussed her musical tastes, who she is as a person, her career and journey, which began when she started singing at 4 years old and led to talent shows starting at 8 years old.

She credits her parents for her diverse musical interests, including The Carpenters, The Bee Gees, Gladys Knight and the Pips, New Edition, ACDC and more.

“It’s given me so many opportunities,” Isaac said. “It’s put me in spaces where I’ve surprised others by my knowledge of music.”

The knowledge and fearlessness propelled Isaac on the path of stardom; working with Kelly Rowland on “Chasing Destiny,” working with Solange on SNL and even acting on Lifetime TV’ “Wrong Neighbor.”

“Everything that I do is very intentional,” Isaac said. “I believe in intention and making something of meaning. That’s really important to me, probably because all of my favorite artists, like, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, even Frank Sinatra, they all were very intentional about their music.”

Isaac’s 5-track “Latency” EP was released July 5 of this year, independently, but the year isn’t over and Issacc has more music on the way in the upcoming months.

“I would just tell people to go out and check out my music and know that it’s there. only a part of the evolution,” Isaac said. “There’s so much more to come. I plan on releasing rock music. I’ve already recorded some country music that’s coming out this autumn, so they’re going to hear a little bit of everything from me to show all the different sides of me.”
