Essence Festival to Celebrate 50 Years of Hip-Hop with Ms. Lauryn Hill, Megan Thee Stallion, Jermaine Dupri & More

Essence Festival is celebrating its 29th year, which happens to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. They have Legends like Ms. Lauryn Hill, Jermaine Dupri, Doug E. Fresh and more, along with rising icons such as Megan Thee Stallion (who will be one of the headliners).

Hill, a headliner, will perform and celebrate the 25th anniversary of her 5x Grammy-winning album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” Doug E. Fresh will curate a special performance of hip-hop pioneers.

Dupri will celebrate the 30th anniversary of So So Def with a special performance filled with some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop to come out of Atlanta.

While the full list of Essence Festival performers has not been announced yet, confirmed so far is Wizkid, Monica, Coco Jones and Kizz Daniel.

“For nearly three decades, the ESSENCE Festival of Culture™ has been an international and joyful gathering that empowers community throughout the global Black diaspora. As the nation’s largest festival by per day attendance, it continues to be a crown jewel of Black culture and plays a pivotal role in the amplification and celebration of the contributions of the Black community through business, music, and more,” Hakeem Holmes, newly appointed Vice President of ESSENCE Festival of Culture said.

Deon Cole, Affion Crockett, Spice Adams and Janelle James will serve as hosts for the weekend, and DJ Spinderella, DJ Kid Capri and DJ Clark Kent will spin throughout.

Essence Festival, a multi-generational experience entrenched in culture, equity, and celebration, will start on June 29 and end July 3. Not only will it be filled with performers, but many business and community-building opportunities, along with many local Black-owned businesses to support.
