Ellen DeGeneres said she doesn’t like to “get political” on her  talk show, but she found a way to criticize Donald Trump’s controversial immigration ban by recapping the plot of her movie “Finding Dory.” 

This past Friday,  Donald Trump rolled out his extremely controversial Muslim ban which caused a wave of impromptu protests all over the country throughout the weekend. While one would think Trump would make his best attempt at explaining the ban to the general public, he instead spent part of the weekend screening “Finding Dory.”

Upon finding out, DeGeneres took a different approach to criticizing the ban. She used the plot of her number 1 movie to talk about the ban, and make very valid points, proving once again that you can learn a lot from cartoons.

“Dory lives in Australia, and these are her parents, and they live in America,” DeGeneres said. “And I don’t know what religion they are, but her dad sounds a little Jewish. It doesn’t matter. Dory arrives in America with her friends Marlin and Nemo. She ends up at the Marine Life Institute behind a large wall. They all have to get over the wall, and you won’t believe it, but that wall has almost no effect in keeping them out.”

One main point of the comparison was how she wrapped it up. Stating when someone is in need, you help them; not hinder/hurt them, regardless of color.

“But the other animals help Dory. Animals that don’t even need her. Animals that don’t have anything in common with her,” the host said. “They help her, even though they’re completely different colors. Because that’s what you do when you see someone in need — you help them.”

For me, America is great because of all the people who came here. Not in spite of them. #NoBan
