We all know Rihanna doesn’t play when it comes to her name and business, so when she said Donald Trump wouldn’t be able to play her songs at his rallies, she meant it.
As previously reported, after finding out on Twitter that Trump was playing her sings at his rallies, she issued a cease and desist immediately.
“It has come to our attention that President Trump has utilized [Rihanna’s] musical compositions and master recordings, including her hit track ‘Don’t Stop the Music,’ in connection with a number of political events held across the United States,” the letter begins to Trump’s White House counsel. “As you are or should be aware, Ms. Fenty has not provided her consent to Mr. Trump to use her music. Such use is therefore improper… Trump’s unauthorized use of Ms. Fenty’s music… creates a false impression that Ms. Fenty is affiliated with, connected to or otherwise associated with Trump,” the cease-and-desist letter continued.”
According to the LA times, BMI has removed Rihanna’s work from a blanket license agreement used for campaigns, called “political entities license.” This means that Trump and his campaign (along with a lot of different political parties) had a license to play her work.
“BMI has received a communication from Robyn Fenty, professionally known as ‘Rihanna,’ objecting to the Trump Campaign’s use of Rihanna’s musical works… As such … this letter serves as notice that Rihanna’s musical works are excluded from the [political entities] Agreement, and any performance of Rihanna’s musical works by the Trump Campaign from this date forward is not authorized by BMI.”
