Donald Glover On New Show “Atlanta” “Show People How It Feels To Be Black”

Donald Glover, or Childish Gambino as many know, is to star in FX’s new show “Atlanta.” What the show is about has been under raps. Not much is known about it, which adds to the excitement. “The thesis with [Atlanta] was kind of to show people how it feels to be black,” Glover told reporters previously. The Hollywood reporter ha a deeper interview with Glover.

“Although it is technically a comedy, Atlanta has a dark tone that Glover and his fellow executive producers say was necessary for the type of story they wanted to tell. “You can’t really write that down,” he said in reference to the show’s thesis. “You kind of have to feel it, so the tonal aspect was really important to me. The show’s executive producer Hiro Murai expanded on some areas the show is trying to bring light to, blurring the line between comedy and truth. “We’re trying to a create a tone in a world where things can happen, where you are allowed to laugh at the hard jokes … but you can also feel real stakes,” he said. “People can get shot and die and you actually care about these characters.”

“Atlanta” will be premiering on September 6th this fall.
