In a since deleted tweet (since Lovato deactivated her Twitter), she made a reference to 21 Savage jokes being dispursed across multiple timelines. “So far 21 savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl,” she tweeted.

People responded to Lovato’s tweet criticizing her speaking on the situation. Many referenced her drug overdose a few months ago in retaliation.

All of which prompted Lovato to respond with the following: “If you’re gonna come at me for making a joke, try coming at me with something original not involving drugs,” Lovato wrote. “F—k Twitter. This is why I don’t tweet anymore.”

Although she deleted her Twitter, Lovato went on Instagram to clarify some things. She uploaded a meme of man writing with a quill and ink that read, “This how 21 Savage be writing his verses,” as well as screenshots of some of the comments she received.

Lovato responded to the criticism. “Wasn’t laughing at anyone getting deported. I know that’s not a joke.. not have I EVER laughed at that. The meme I posted/was talking about was of him being writing with a feather pen. Sorry if I offended anyone. But it’s no excuse to laugh at someone’s addiction let alone their OD.”

Rapper Wale also chimed in on the singer’s tweet. “Why is somebody freedom funny … I don’t get the joke.” He added in a second tweet: “A lot of people were sending you love, light, prayers etc. When people were making jokes about u at a rough time. A lot of people. Bless up.”

Now, we know the situation is not funny, but I want to point out that Lovato, along with millions of people were laughing about finding out that 21 had U.K. Ties. Not possibly being deported. Regardless of whatever side you’re on with this debate, one thing we can all agree on is Free 21.
