Patti LaBelle's 8065 Tour at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland on Feb. 6.
Patti LaBelle has a remarkable ability to make you feel both seen and heard, with the soothing warmth of her voice, particularly on calm, introspective tracks like “If Only You Knew” and “Somebody Love You Baby.” Then, in an instant, she shifts gears, raising the energy with songs like “New Attitude” and even kicking off her heels. That infectious energy resonated throughout the entire night of her performance at the MGM National Harbor.
From the moment LaBelle’s first pump set foot on stage, she was met with applause, flowers and cheers. As part of her 8065 Tour which celebrates her legendary career that’s extended 65 years and the entertainer being 80 years young, LaBelle brought her dynamic, soulful energy and commanding presence to the audience, remaining as exhilarating and captivating as ever.
For about an hour and a half, Queen Patti Patti transported fans on a journey through her decades-long career. From her early days with LaBelle to her solo successes. Opening with “Funky Music,” LaBelle immediately set the tone for the evening with her band and backup singers, letting the talent speak for themselves as every note could be heard and felt throughout the venue.
A powerful voice capable of crossing genres and defying expectations, LaBelle’s voice and style remain a unique treasure—a combination of passion and raw power that resonates across ages.
Throughout the performance, LaBelle effortlessly shifted between poignant ballads and upbeat anthems. “Lady Marmalade,” always a staple, brought something out of the audience. From the electrifying beat to the infectious lyrics, the audience rejoiced in that classic within the first few seconds.
All the instrumentalists and singers had a chance at solos, which allowed everyone to have their own moment while supporting LaBelle. While performing “On My Own,” her male backup singer carried the entire time and continued that vocal energy into a brief praise and worship segment during the show.
LaBelle’s connection with her audience is something unique to her performances. Never playing the role of a distant celebrity, always engaging, making everyone in the room feel like a part of the family at the “Ms. Patti Party.”
An example of those feelings could be seen throughout the night with the numerous flowers LaBelle received from multiple fans and admirers while on stage.
When the OG, the Godmother of Soul takes the stage, she offers more than just music—she offers an experience, a lesson in self-expression, range and, above all, soul. Whether it’s the low growls that send chills down your spine or the soaring high notes that leave the crowd in awe, Patti LaBelle’s voice in 2025 is a reminder of why she remains a musical icon—a living legend whose impact can still be felt with every note she sings.
