Chrisette Michele On Performing At Donald Trump’s Inauguration: “We Can’t Be Present If We’re Silent”

By now you know that R&B/Soul Vocalist Chrisette Michele is set to perform for Donald Trump’s Inauguration celebration. Being a woman, and on top of that, a black woman; Michele has faced deep criticism from fans/former fans everywhere.

Michele posted an open letter on her social media about her performance, a letter with the first line reading, “We Can’t Be Present If We’re Silent.” You can read the letter and the backlash comments below.

“My heart is broken for our country, for the hopes of our children, for the fights of those who came before us. I cry at the thought that Black History, American History might be in vain. This country has had great moments. God has shined His light upon us. Today, I hope that Great Moments begin in peaceful & progressive conversation. I am willing to be a bridge. I don’t mind “These Stones”, if they allow me to be a voice for the voiceless. I am here. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Our lives begin to end, the day we become silent about what matters,”. I am here, representing you, because this is what matters.” – Chrisette Michele#NoPoliticalGenius

Of course after her inauguration announcement and the open letter, the Michele backlash is only getting bigger. Now, Jennifer Holliday was also supposed to perform at the event, but after backlash and death threats; she backed out on Tuesday. With only a few days until the event, Time will tell if Michele will follow through on her performance or not.
