Cardi B is Now the First Female Rapper to win ASCAP’s Songwriter of the Year Award

The ASCAP awards honor some of music greatest hitmakers, and last night (June 20) was no different. Cardi B made history becoming the first female rapper to win the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award.

Platinum hits like “Bodak Yellow,” “Finesse (Remix),” ”I Like It” (featuring J. Balvin and Bad Bunny), and many more songs have help transcend Cardi’s career from reality television star, to Grammy winning artist.

“I just want to say I’m very grateful,” she said in her acceptance speech. “Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing too much because when it comes to female rappers, it’s like you’re never doing too much or they’re always pitting you against another female rapper. People on my team are like ‘Cardi, you’re crazy. You won a Grammy. Cardi, all your songs are charting.'”

n April 3, 2019, her debut album Invasion of Privacy was certified three-times platinum by the RIAA.
