As private as legendary artist Prince was, we are getting blessed with a documentary about him through the gifted hands of Ava Duvernay, “with love.”

Variety reports the collaboration between DuVernay and Prince’s estate has been going on for several months now. While working, DuVernay will have full access to interviews, archival footage, and photos as she creates a multi-part documentary exploring the late legend’s entire life.
Deadline reports that Prince himself actually reached out to DuVernay to work together. No mention of the documentary being the actual project talked about, but even so, Prince’s estate has approved of the Netflix documentary.

DuVernay put on Twitter that, “Prince was a genius, a joy and a jolt to the senses. He was like no other. He shattered preconceived notions, smashed boundaries, and shared his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love and great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful.”
