Maxwell’s “The Serenade Tour” lived up to its name, not just with Maxwell but with the vocal stylings of supporting acts Jazmine Sullivan and October London.
On Sept. 21 in Baltimore, Maryland, Maxwell set an intimate atmosphere for “The Serenade Tour” while fans eagerly awaited the arrival of the R&B sensation. Making his way to the center of the floor through the crowd to a roar of applause for his first song of the night, Maxwell performed his version of the Al Green classic, “Simply Beautiful,” which had fans swaying and singing along.
Known for his smooth vocals and ability to bring lyrics to life through his tone and cadence, Maxwell emphasized the art of serenading from the first note. His rich vocals filled every corner of the CFG Arena, while the crowd swayed in rhythm, transported to a world of soulful melodies.
A favorite moment of the night for me was his West Indian-styled live version of “Lake By The Ocean,” which included Maxwell’s knee dance (IYKYK). The playful choreography brought a lighthearted energy to the performance, inviting the audience to join in the fun.
Maxwell showed he can stir deep emotions and create an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
Jazmine Sullivan had her own vocally mesmerizing set, delivering powerful renditions of hits like “In Love with Another Man,” “Girl Like Me,” “10 Seconds,” and more. Her vocal prowess was on full display, effortlessly navigating the highs and lows of her songs.
October London’s sound bridged the gap between classic R&B and contemporary vibes with his tone, captivating the audience with his soulful voice and dynamic stage presence. Each note resonated with passion, creating an unforgettable experience that left fans wanting more.
As the concert continued, Maxwell wove through his catalog, delivering fan favorites like “Pretty Wings,” “Ascension,” “Sumthin’ Sumthin’” and more. Curating his own party through songs, Maxwell drew concertgoers into the storytelling of his music.
There was a sense of emotional awe that filled the room, like the calm you experience when you reconnect with a best friend and it feels like nothing has changed, even though you’ve both grown.
Maxwell’s “The Serenade Tour” not only showcased his artistry but also created a sense of community among fans, united by their love for soulful music. It was a night that truly celebrated the beauty of R&B, leaving attendees eagerly anticipating their next chance to experience the magic live.
Maxwell continues his tour through various cities, ending the tour in Los Angeles.
